Colin Powell Says Trump's Foreign Policy is 'In shambles'
Powell, the former Secretary of State has claimed that Donald Trump's foreign policy is failing, and that the entire Republican party needs some sort of reform in this aspect of governing.
Claiming to be a moderate republican himself, Powell expressed his concerns for the current state of foreign policy. "The Republican Party has got to get a grip on itself," he said.
Powell went on to explain that if he was under Trump's administration, someone would have told him,"...'Mr. President, you screwed up, so we've got to fix it and we'll put out a correction.'" It is clear that Donald Trump's foreign policy is not doing well. In addition to the errors that Trump has made, none of them are being corrected. Everyone in the commerce department has just backed up the President, and done whatever he says.
The last quote from Colin that is important and should be included is that, "...the Constitution started with, 'We the People,' not 'Me the President.'" It is clear that Colin is upset by the current state of Foreign Policy, and how selfish Trump has been with the decisions he has made. It is safe to say that he hasn't looked out for the country's best interest the way he has looked out for his best interest.
In conclusion, Donald Trump has been extremely selfish, and ineffective. If he doesn't make a change to the way he maintains our relationships and policies with other countries, he could put America in a bad position for the future. Whether it be a loss of an ally, or an excommunication by a country that makes an item essential to our economy, we could be in serious trouble.
1) How could Trump improve the condition of US Foreign policy?
- Keep in mind that he hasn't done much for us in this area of gov't yet, so there is ample room for improvement.
2) Why is president Trump so selfish when it comes to Foreign Policy? Is there something other countries know or have on him that he doesn't want us American citizens to know?

ReplyDelete1. The stated aims of the foreign policy of the Donald Trump administration include a focus on security, by fighting terrorists abroad and strengthening border defenses and immigration controls. In addition, he wants to expand the military, and make peace with what he calls, "old enemies". With this, he has begun peace talks with North Korea, which is seen as very controversial.
1. When it comes to US foreign policy, his actions as president are guided by personal interests. Trump used the power of the presidency to extort a foreign government to help his own re-election chances. In order to improve the condition of US foreign policy, Trump must put the interests and security of the American people first.
ReplyDelete2. With the recent impeachment case, it seems that Trump has been using foreign affairs to benefit himself rather than others. He tries to run the country like his business, using shady tactics in foreign affairs and trying to benefit himself the most rather than the country. He needs to put the American people first, instead of his own personal needs. - Matthew Pilch
ReplyDeleteTrump could improve his position in foreign policy by offering more foreign aid to countries that choose to enforce our ideals of democracy. The war in the Middle East can be won by investing in freedom fighters and pushing the U.S. agenda through supporting military groups that will take action against terrorist jihadi forces. We can see just how useful an ally can be in the case of Jerusalem and if we wish to expand ourselves as a world power, we must push our ideals further around the globe to those who are willing to listen and act in U.S. interest.
ReplyDeleteTrump is selfish when it comes to foreign policy because he wants to act in U.S. interests rather than investing in something he believes won’t give back. For years, Obama had little to no push with foreign allies in negotiation over trade. Obama did hardly dabbled with the concept of working on enforcing import and export prices. Additionally, in instances such as Trump’s withdrawl from the climate accords, Trump wishes to preserve jobs to help him in his reelection campaign with many southerners.

ReplyDelete1. I think Trump could improve foreign policy by cleaning up the issues with border control at present. His excess spending on useless projects like the wall and the detainment of immigrants is causing a lot of issues both domestically and abroad, and so halting this would help with his foreign policy. Also, his use of presidential power to demand his way, like with the Ukraine issue that led to his impeachment, does not help him make any friends.
