Trump rolls back on Vaping following mysterious disease outbreak

GP: THC may be to blame in Minnesota's severe respiratory illnesses linked to vaping

Currently, the CDC and FDA have been hard at work investigating a mysterious lung disease that seems to have swept the nation by surprise. We knew for a fact that tobacco products were directly attributed to lung cancer as well as esophageal cancer however, the recent rise in teens coming down with a 'serious lung disease' as a result of vape products has been unheard of. Donald Trump recently made a promise to sweep the nation of flavored vape products.

In addition to including 380 cases under likely or certain influence by vape products, there have now been six directly linked deaths. The conditions of the lung disease resemble those of lipoid pneumonia and an oil induced pneumonia. The reports have also detailed a possible ingredient within the some vape products (vitamin E acetate) that they believe is linked in many of the cases.

Vitamin E acetate is an ingredient commonly used in skin care products. The ingredient is said to be used likely to enhance or augment the vapor clouds given off after inhaling the product. Many cases where reportedly healthy children have fallen ill have become more and more common.

The White House has currently placed the issue as a priority within their agenda. The issue has affected teens across the nation and Trump has personally made statements in regard to the recent outbreak saying "We can't allow people to get sick. And we can't have our kids be so affected." Following pressure from local governments, state officials, educators and health officials, Trump has promised to make a stand for stricter regulations on e-cigarettes and other vape products.

1.) Do you think Trump is right to decide to regulate vaping products? Why?

2.) Is regulating something, even if something is deemed dangerous, becoming more commonplace within the Republican agenda? Why?

3.) Should vaping product usage among teens be allowed? Why?

    1. Although vape companies claim to be 18+, and that they only advertise to adults, a great share of their users are teens, who are extremely susceptible to nicotine, which is highly addictive. With a rise in deaths caused by e-cigarettes and vapes, Trump must place stricter regulations on the vaping industry. Although created as a "healthier alternative" to smoking, vaping has become increasing harmful to teens.

  2. 3. The use of vaping products among teens should not be allowed because nicotine products are unsafe and addictive. A common misconception is that vaping is a “healthier” alternative to smoking. Study shows that repeated use of vaping products can lead young users to start smoking regular cigarettes. Therefore, e-cigarettes should be regulated.

  3. 1) Anything that has adverse health effects should be regulated, and this includes vaping products. The emergence of various lung diseases as a result of vaping are most likely a consequence of the lack of regulation in the contents of vapes. The contents of vaping products should be strictly regulated in order to decrease the risk of these diseases.

  4. 1). Trump does have a right to regulate vaping products especially with how they have risen in popularity amongst minors. Vape companies advertise towards younger generations with fruity flavors. Therefore Trump has the right to regulate what flavors certain companies release. Additionally if not Trump regulating it, someone else should because the vaping disease has been affecting teens across the US.

  5. 2. In the days of Reagan, the Republican party held the idea that less government influence was better. In recent years, the Republican party has shifted away from this with their actions, even if their words remain the same. I think religious influences have led to the Republican party's stance that substances such as marijuana and vapes should be illegal.

  6. I think that especially if a product is posing a public health issue, it should be closely regulated. The fact that so many teens have developed lung diseases from e-cigarettes and other vaping products is worrisome. Also, the fact that Trump and the Republican party were supportive of regulations on vape companies is indicative of how bad this problem actually is, as Republicans are often opposed to economic regulations on large businesses. While many vape companies claim to be targeting adults who are trying to transition out of addiction to cigarettes, they often market towards teens.

Out of all the mistakes he did in his presidency from bad judgement and being a bad president this is a small amount of goods that he has made in his presidency, by banning the flavor cartridges. He was right into banding it due to it brings a lot of harm in children who are now starting to use it at an early age and running their health .

    3. Vaping product usage should not be allowed among teens, as it can easily become addictive and influence their development. Kids are still growing, and it is difficult to determine what chemicals are in these vapes and what they will do to people. People should not legally be allowed to vape before the age of 18 or 21 in order to ensure their safety and stop them from getting addicted at such a young age.

  10. 3) Vaping product usage amongst teens shouldn’t be allowed under any circumstances. Despite the label of vaping or e-cigarettes being healthier than normal cigarettes the reality is the complete opposite. Cigarettes have been used in the U.S. since the 20th century and there has already been mass awareness of the dangers of cigarettes while many scientists today do not know the exact ingredients used that make up the silhouette of an e-cigarette. Teens should not be putting a substance in their bodies if they do not know what it is.

  11. When the people are sick and there is something the government can do to address it, they should. However, I do not think there is a good way to solve this problem besides completely getting rid of these products. Even so, it is not legal for teens to purchase vape products, but they still manage to get ahold of it so wouldn't people figure out a way even with them gone?

  12. Trump is not right to regulate vaping products, as his approach to the issue is not entirely thought out. The main vaping companies are responsible for getting kids addicted, but it is the black market flavors that are causing the deaths. If the United States bans certain flavors or vapes entirely, it would already addicted people buying flack market cartridges. However, a ban of certain flavors could also be beneficial, as fewer minors would become addicted.

  13. 1.) Do you think Trump is right to decide to regulate vaping products? Why?

I believe Trump should be allowed to regulate vaping products, being that it has become such a large, uncontrollable issue that the media constantly pushes. Vaping products, and flavored nicotine should surely be closely regulated, being that it can quickly get into the hands of minors, potentially causing more fatalities. Now that it has come out that there are diseases attached to it, it further supports the idea that Trump should regulate these products.

2.) Is regulating something, even if something is deemed dangerous, becoming more commonplace within the Republican agenda? Why?

I personally believe that this issue isn't very political, but more societal. Teens are being swept up with vaping products, and now some are suffering the effects of it, making it vital that some regulation is done to stop this trend.

3.) Should vaping product usage among teens be allowed? Why?

Vaping products and teens should most definitely not be associated together, being that there are countless dangerous, and possibly fatal effects to excessive use. Addiction, and diseases come with vaping, making it detrimental to health. Once a a person's brain is fully developed, they are capable of making their own choices and old enough, they should be allowed to legally purchase any product they want.
